The Three (Aggravating) Guys In Romantic Comedies

Posted in: , , ,

By Alex Wise

When I'm not dispensing relationship advice, I'm also studying film. And there's no place those two intersect more closely than the "romantic" "comedy". It's a great cultural stereotype that guys hate "chick flicks", because it's largely true. But the stereotype is predicated on the idea that guys hate icky "feelings" and "romance", when instead there are many perfectly valid reasons to hate romantic comedies. Usually the male characters. Just like women don't enjoy seeing a dumb blonde who exists solely to take her shirt off on screen (well, as a rule), men don't like to see...

Cheeky! Cinema Buys Plastic Seat Covers For '50 Shades of Grey' Movie Screenings

Posted in: , , , ,

A cinema chain in America is reportedly taking measures to safeguard the upholstery of the seats in their screens in anticipation of Friday's release of 50 Shades Of Grey ahead of Valentine's day. The management of each cinema have begun fitting wipeable plastic covers to theatre seating where the raunchy new movie will be shown. This they say is in a bid to curb an expensive cleanup following each screening.

The 50 Shades Of Grey movie is based on the best-selling book of the same name by British author E.L. James. The x-rated novel tells the story of a young woman’s journey into the world of kinky sex after she begins dating bondage master Christian Grey. The book sold billions of copies worldwide.

Michael Moore Insists Snipers Are Cowards, Praises American Sniper Movie

Posted in: , , ,

Filmmaker Michael Moore started an online fuss over the weekend when he called snipers cowards, except if you were protecting your homeland. The two tweets were said by commentators to reference plot points in the the movie "American Sniper" which I saw yesterday. I thought it was a powerful and touching movie, and while I'm not a big fan of war, I respect soldiers and the role they play to protect civilians when necessary.

The movie so far has six Oscar nominations, and broke highest grossing record for January after leading the weekend box office. And in the wake of people seeing the movie, the Twitter war continued with sides for and against Michael Moore's tweets.

Jennifer Lopez Makes Movie Comeback With Boy Next Door Ryan Guzman

Posted in: ,

I realized how much I'd loved Jennifer Lopez in movies while I was watching the trailer to her new movie Boy Next Door with young hottie Ryan Guzman before we saw Selma over the weekend.

Jennifer Lopez sure knows how to heat up the big screen and I'll surely be seeing the movie when it comes out later this month. Until then, it was also nice seeing her so fashionably attired for the Golden Globes red carpet.

Video - Obama Calls The Interview Star James Flacco While Addressing SONY Hack

Posted in: , ,

Oops! James Flacco? While discussing ‘The Interview’ being pulled from cinemas, President Barack Obama slipped up on one of the names of movies' stars. He mentioned Seth Rogen and James Flacco?

The slip up happened during his end-of-the-year news conference, where President Barack Obama addressed the hacking of Sony Pictures Entertainment and said he was not happy they pulled "The Interview". He admitted he was a fan of both major actors in the movie.

Some say he may have misidentified James Franco the movie actor, possibly confusing him with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco. See the video below...

Joseph Benjamin In Interracial Romantic Comedy - MUM, DAD, MEET SAM

Posted in: , ,

Mum, Dad Meet Sam stars Nigerian actor Joseph Benjamin, along with British Nollywood actors, ADOT Comedian, Daniella Down,Theodora Ibekwe-Oyebade, Helen Gold, Anthony Ofoegbu, Edith Nwekenta, Segilola Ogidan, Marlene Abuah.

The romantic comedy is about a Nigerian guy in London who falls in love with a white woman and then brings her home to Nigeria to meet his parents. It sounds intruiging and fresh to me, quite a reverse of what we usually have here in the US where it is usually the white woman taking her black boyfriend home.

To the makers, I hope we don't have to wait too long to see it online?
